Yes, your faithful friend might be a member of the anti-piracy squad of the film industry !

Capacity of dogs to sniff is proverbial. Their high olfactory skill is used in various situations like sniffing narcotics, explosives, locate human beings buried in natural calamities like earth quakes and so on. Now a novel use is identified for the dogs using their olfactory skill.
Sniffer dogs are the latest weapon in Hollywood, using in war against movie piracy. British authorities have also deployed Labrador Retrievers to sniff out counterfeit DVDs, industry officials said. A confidential report recently leaked revealed that industry lost 6.1 billion dollars to piracy last year.

Hollywood's main trade group said that the two black labs have been trained by the British customs to track down hidden DVDs. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) said the dogs, named lucky and Ro, had been put to work at courier service Federal Express's British hub at Stansted airport, near London.

"This is the first time dogs have been used anywhere in the world to search for counterfeit DVDs and the results were amazing," said Director General of the Federation Against Copyright Theft, which has partnered with Fedex and British customs to fight movie piracy.
